2013 Volkswagen CC To Debut At The Los Angeles Auto Show

Volkswagen calls it a four-door coupe, but we know it as the German automaker’s flagship sedan. At the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, the 2013 Volkswagen CC will make its debut, but VW has released a few teaser photos ahead of time.

Our sister publication TheCarConnection observes that the CC has held an interesting position in the VW pantheon. It is at once the more “flamboyant” and “aesthetically superior” take on an upscale sedan, and “a cut above the more conservative Passat.”

We’d have to agree. The 2013 CC, while not dramatically different either on the exterior or the interior, is one strikingly good-looking four-door, whether you call it a coupe or a sedan. For more inside scoop on what’s different about the latest iteration of the CC, check out this preview in MotorAuthority.

What we’re impressed by is the fact that, besides being good-looking, the CC is also VW’s best-seller in the U.S. In the first 10 months of 2011, the CC has racked up a total of 25,354 sales. That’s 12 percent ahead of the same period last year.

The mid-size luxury Volkswagen CC sedan is  also a safe car, having been awarded a 2011 Top Safety Pick designation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Autoweek reports that in some markets, VW will equip the CC with blind-spot detection and lane-monitoring technologies, and also that VW will offer a system that can detect and recognize traffic signs. However, there’s no indication yet that the U.S. versions will get these advanced safety features.
